Seven Psychopaths is from Martin McDonagh, the genuinely genius writer of In Bruges and multiple excellent plays. That alone is enough to get me interested to see this. But you add Sam Rockwell and Chris Walken and Woody Harrelson and Abbie Cornish and Colin Farrell, who is sometimes in terrible shit but was amazing in In Bruges so I’m confident. The story looks pretty threadbare and high concept but it all looks like it’s been pulled off with the panache and careful, massively profane touch McDonagh has proven adept at. So, yeah, it does all look a bit like Smokin’ Aces, but I’m certain it will be much better than that. No perhaps a film that will uncover the hidden depths of male friendship, as In Bruges stealthily did, but no doubt this will be at bare minimum good. Also, TOM WAITS!
